Obituary

Curtis Lee Walker, Sr., age 98 and a lifelong resident of Hickory, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 13, 2025 from 9:00 am until 10:50 am at Newton County Funeral Home - South, 100 Old Hwy. 15 Loop, Newton.

Funeral services will begin Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will follow in Hickory Cemetery with military funeral honors by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard.

Dr. Randy Rich and Chaplain Cregg Puckett will officiate.

He attended Hickory High School before being drafted in the United States Army to serve his country during World War II. He was a retired truck driver and cattle farmer. He also retired from Newton County, Beat 5, as a machine operator. Hobbies he enjoyed were hunting, and fishing, but especially fox hunting. He was a Christian by testimony of his faith. He will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Gibbs Walker; one son, Ray Walker;  one daughter, Donna Walker Whitrock;  his parents, George Issac and Donie Bassett Walker and one brother, Jack Walker.

Survivors include one son, Curtis Walker, Jr.  (Suzan) of Hickory and one daughter, Wanda Walker Strait, both of Hickory;  nine grandchildren, Danielle Linton (Rusty), Ryan Strait (Krystal), Joseph Whitrock, Roger Walker (Brandi), Matthew Walker (Amanda), Lindsay  Atkins (Luke), Ashley Rigdon (Adam), Daniel Parker (Noel) and Phillip Parker and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roger Walker, Matthew Walker, Ryan Strait, Luke Atkins, Adam Rigdon, Daniel Parker, and Phillip Parker.

Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
