Charles was a man of many remarkable feats, even though most were unintentional. But only through the grace of God, he lived to tell the tale for which he loved so much to do. From his early days, shaped by resilience in foster care, he forged a path filled with grit and boundless courage. Upon running away from the orphanage at the young age of 7, Charles set out on a path to find his younger brother Thad, who was in foster care. His life changed completely once Olen and Louise Ferguson brought them home to Hickory, Mississippi. This is where Charles learned what a home truly is, his Christian values and the benefit of hard work. Charles always knew that if it weren't for "Aunt Louise and Uncle Olen" that there would be no telling how hard his life would have been. Their willingness to take him into their home changed the trajectory of his life that allowed him to accomplish so much. Those around him knew him as a storyteller, a dreamer, and a force of nature. His life stories are one for the movies and a testament of the adventurous man he was. He never met a stranger and could carry on a conversation with anyone, and nothing made him happier than them leaving the conversation with a smile on their face. He learned early in life; to make something of yourself, you must put in the work. While in high school, he started a chainsaw repair shop, drove a school bus part time and did anything he could do to earn extra spending money. As a paratrooper in the Army, he not only jumped out of airplanes but also unintentionally accomplished the impossible by landing onto another parachute mid-air. He was an airplane pilot. He has been lost at sea and attacked by sharks while scuba diving. He was a race-care driver, even though it was probably illegal. He was a motocross racer. He tamed wild horses. He was a sportsman. He was a beekeeper. He restored classic cars. He was a repairer of all things. He was a horrible Sailor, but he sailed his boat anyway. He was a hiker. He was a jokester. He was a traveler. He was an entrepreneur. He lived life to the fullest and embraced the unknown. If you knew Charles, you knew he was a planner. If he could have planned when he was going to leave this earth, he would have. However, even as his health continued to decline, he said "I don't want to be here, but Gods got a plan and we're gonna go with it". He was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather and brother. He was a strong man of Faith and never wavered in the end. Though his adventures have taken him to the skies and beyond, his greatest legacy is his faithful walk with God and those he has inspired. His most memorable adventure was a trip to Israel where he was re-baptized in the River Jordan.
He was preceded in death by the loving family that raised him Olen & Louise Ferguson, his birthparents Fred Austin and Juanita Mae Smith Green and his brother, Thaddeus Green.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-one years, Amelia Talton Green of Decatur, MS; two sons, Chris Green (Jennifer) of Decatur, MS and Brian Green (Janet) of Liberty Hill, TX; eight grandchildren, Tyler Green of Hickory, MS, Clay Green of Decatur, MS, Riley Green of Decatur, MS, Easton Green of Decatur, MS, Bradyn Green of Decatur, MS, Owen Green of Liberty Hill, TX, Landen Green of Liberty Hill, TX and Kellen Green of Liberty Hill, TX; one brother, Bill Davidson (Peggy); two sisters, Louise Green Yokum (Gary) of Corpus Christi, TX and Kathy Green Massey of Anderson, TX; and a host of other family members and friends.
