Obituary

Cecil Jeanette Combest, affectionately known as "Lucy", 92, of Newton, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at her home in Newton, Mississippi. She was born Saturday, April 20, 1929, and lived most of her life in Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home-South in Newton, Mississippi. A private family graveside service will be held Monday, August 9, 2021, at Phalti Baptist Church Cemetery in Pachuta, Mississippi.

Before retirement, Ms. Lucy was a business owner in Newton for many years. She was an active member of her church and her community. A true neighbor, she was always willing to help those in need any way that she could. She was known for her ability to cook, her love of gardening, and her passion for animals. She also was an accomplished painter and crafter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Floyd Combest, her second husband, Spurgeon Buckley, and her parents, William Elbert and Eva Adams.

Survivors include her children, Jim Combest (Pat) and Beverly Stern (Rob), her grandchildren, Jim Combest II (Melinda), Britt Combest, and Spurgeon Buckley (Ashley), 6 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Eva Ruffin.

Ms. Lucy is also survived by Ginger D'Antoni, Martin Buckley, and Taka Adachi, all of whom she cherished and were special people in her life.

Pallbearers will be Jim Combest II, Spurgeon Buckley, Ricky Russell, and Taka Adachi.
