Catherine Jay, 72, of Newton passed away Friday June 26, 2026, in Meridian, MS after a brief illness. Mrs. Jay was born August 4, 1953 to Floyd and Elizabeth Todd Swindle of Meridian, MS. A Baptist by faith, Mrs. Jay was a member of First Baptist Church of Newton. She was employed at Peavy Electronics for many years. She loved her animals, and nature as a whole.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home South, 100 old Highway 15 loop, Newton, MS with funeral service at 2:00 pm at the same location. Burial will follow at Popular Springs Cemetery. Bro. Chris Spence will officiate the service.
Mrs. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Elizabeth Todd Swindle; husband, Daniel Jay; daughter, Kathy Presley; brother, Jack Swindle; and sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Randy Slone.
Survivors include her children: sons; Larry Smith, and Wesley Smith (Tonya); daughters; Elizabeth Street (Charles), and Mae Swindoll; brothers, Wesley Swindle, Andrew Swindle, Alexander Swindle (Debbie), Clayton Swindle (Abby); sisters, Barbara Weaver (Donnie), Ion Stephens, Cece Vickers (Bob); 14 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several great- great grandchildren, as well as other extended family.
Honored to serve as pall bearers will be Danny Presley, Robert Presley, Rick Case, Elva Swindoll Jr, Austin Tatum, Adam Cinqmars, Hunter Kirk, Ben Stephens, Daniel Brown, Charlie Street, and Jonny Flores.
Services are entrusted to Newton County Funeral Home-South.
