****A public graveside service for Ms. Carol Sue Gibbs will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11:00 am at Newton County Memorial Gardens. Friends and relatives are invited to attend as several were not able to attend her memorial service.

Carol Sue Breland Gibbs, a real sweetheart, was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1942, in Greene
County, Mississippi, to Sutie Cochran Breland McMullan and Vonn Breland. After her parents divorced,
Carol Sue and her older brother, Vonnie Mac, moved with their mother to Newton, Mississippi, to be
near their uncle. It was here that Carol Sue and Vonnie Mac were raised by their mother and the man
they considered their "Daddy," Miley McMullan.

Carol Sue graduated from Newton High School in 1960 where she was a member of the basketball team
and various clubs. She obtained her teaching degree from Mississippi University for Women and a
master of education from Mississippi State University. Carol Sue influenced and mentored many young
people as an educator at her alma mater in Newton from 1964 until her retirement in 1997. She taught
history, driver's ed, and PE, coached tennis and basketball, and drove a bus. She often worked two or
three extra jobs outside of school so that she could provide for her sons. Carol Sue waited on many
customers at Zack Garvin's Steakhouse, and during her last visit to Newton a little over a year ago, she
was able to enjoy lunch there with several of her friends. Carol Sue was not lacking in friends, for she
knew how to be a friend. She enjoyed playing golf and card games and going to the movies. Carol Sue
was a member of First Baptist Church of Newton and the Gleaners Sunday School class. Her favorite
scripture was the Twenty-Third Psalm.

Carol Sue was a devoted friend, daughter, sister, and teacher, but her greatest joy was being a mother to
her sons, Mike and Darrell. The boys have often talked of their mother's devotion to them. She was
their number one fan at every sporting event and activity in which they were involved. They smile now
as they recall how their mother dragged them out of bed every Sunday morning for church. Carol Sue
taught Mike and Darrell to work hard and never give up. Up until her last breath, she fought hard to be
here for her boys. Without a doubt, her favorite name was "Nana," and what a wonderful, dedicated
grandmother she was to six grandchildren. When her health was good, Nana never failed to call each
one on his or her birthday, and she attended as many of their activities as possible.
Carol Sue made the very best pot roast, lasagna, and chicken tetrazinni. She would often answer her
phone with the words, "Hey, darling." A diehard Mississippi State fan, Carol Sue could often be seen
sporting MSU attire. She was a true, classy lady and started every day with lipstick. Carol Sue is
completely healed now and at home in heaven with those she has missed for so long.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Miley and Sutie McMullan; her brother, Vonnie Mac Breland;
and her grandson, Logan Gibbs.

Carol Sue is survived by her sons Mike Gibbs (Kathy) of Brandon; Darrell Gibbs (Gina) of Crystal Springs;
her grandchildren Michael Gibbs of Logan, Utah; Madison Gibbs of Jackson; Cannon Gibbs of
Hattiesburg; Sandison Gibbs of Brandon; and Maggie Gibbs of Ridgeland; her step-grandchildren Newt
Riley of Natchez and Edie Riley of Brookhaven; and her nephews Jeff Breland of Lake and Brad Breland of
Union.

Pallbearers will be Michael Gibbs, Cannon Gibbs, Jeff Breland, Brad Breland, Cal Cochran, and David
White.
