Carl Lee "Whip" Hollingsworth, 87, of Decatur, Mississippi, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Anderson's Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi. He was born Sunday, May 29, 1932 in Decatur, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Bruce Taylor and Rev. Susannah Grubbs Carr will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 635-3200
Carl, who was affectionately known as "Whip", loved all of his family. He was an avid golfer and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Annie Lee Hollingsworth and one sister, Lois Graham.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Hollingsworth; children, Gary Hollingsworth (Tracy), Holly Purifoy (Rusty), Sherry Walker (James), Danny Heflin (Debbie), Stan Heflin (Rhonda), and Dana Vance (Curtis); grandchildren, Lindsey Hollingsworth (David), Rosalyn Muller (Joshua), Logan Walker, Brenna Price (Ron), Matthew Purifoy (Alicia), Amy Purifoy (Todd), Jesse Vance (Julie), Ashton Culpepper (Kiley), Todd McLelland (Jennifer), and Libby Culpepper (Jackie); great-grandchildren, Jayden Rivers, Westin Culpepper, Uriah-Kooper Culpepper, Darvol Hart, Rye Hart, Logan McLelland, Madison McLelland, Benjamin Price, Caitlyn Price, Andrew Price, and Ella Purifoy; two sisters, June Tobelman and Norma Kohl.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Muller, Jesse Vance, Todd McLelland, Curtis Vance, Todd McCracken, Matthew Purifoy, Logan Walker, and Stan Heflin.
Honorary pallbearers will be his Golfing Buddies.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
