Carl Douglas Bynum, 84, of Newton, Mississippi, died Sunday, November 25, 2018, at Anderson's Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi. He was born Saturday, September 1, 1934, in Taylorsville, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Newton County Funeral Home- North in Newton, Mississippi. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery, and the Burial will follow at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Bro. Adam Wade, Bro. Sydney Davis will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 635-3200.

Doug was a deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi, for numerous years.  He was a member of the American Legion in Taylorsville and Newton.  He was a talented woodworker and spent many hours making beautiful items for his friends and family.  He loved to tell stories of his time in Korea and of his Cherokee heritage.  He was beloved by all and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Bynum; mother, Minnie Bynum; brother, Mac Bynum; and sister, Annie Laura Tanner.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hilda Grace Bynum; daughter, Jocasta (Cassie) Ford (Sammy); grandson, Robert Ford (Penny); granddaughter, Katie Moffett (Jeremy); great-grandson, Gavin Moffett; great-granddaughter, Carlee Ford; great-grandson, Russell Ford; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Irby; special caretaker, Tammy Wheaton, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Bynum, Jarod Bynum, Larry Robinson, Heath Robinson, Donace Anderson, and David Cleveland.
