Obituary

Memorial services for Carey Hilman Williamson will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Newton. Rev. Chris Spence and Rev Hal Bates will officiate.

Mr. Williamson, age 82, and a resident of Newton, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at home. He was born in  rural Kemper County and attended Collinsville School. At age 17, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he married his first wife, the mother of his children.  After living several years in Nebraska, he relocated to Arizona, where he eventually met his future wife, Melody. Almost thirty years ago, he relocated to his home state of Mississippi, where he continued his profession in retail and outside sales for hardware stores. He had a passion for motorcycles, trucks, tractors and boats and was an avid NASCAR fan. Travel and camping were two favorite past times that allowed him and Melody to explore God's wonderful creation. He was proud of the fact that he was the Newton Garden Club "Yard of the Month" recipient. He was a Christian by faith, and a member of First Baptist Church of Newton, where he sang in the choir and served as a greeter. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mortimer and Jewel Townsend Williamson and one brother, Rex May.

Survivors include his wife, Melody Kersh Williamson of Newton and her children, Adrienne Russell (Andy) of Plaquemine, LA,  Michael Harris (Kenzie) of Phoenix, AZ,  Polly Terrill (Marlon) of Phoenix, AZ and Melody Manzanares (Nick) of Phoenix, AZ; her ten  grandchildren and  thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Marie Mindell of Oceanside, CA; one uncle, Harold Williamson (Louise) of Collinsville;  his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Special music will be provided by Mr. Jeff Hardy and Mr. Joe Pugh.

Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
