Glover Burnell Simmons, III, 71 of Conehatta, MS passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS. He was born Thursday, February 28, 1952 in Newton, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home - N orth ( 99 98 Eastside Dr. Ext / Hwy 15N., Newton, MS. ) with funeral services immediately following. Burial will take place in Lawrence Cemetery in Lawrence, Mississippi. Bro. Steven Hoc kman will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements ( 60 1 ) 635-3200 .

Burnell was an avid hunter and fisherman. The only thing he l oved more than the outdoors was his f amily. "Po ppy" as he was affectionally know n by his grandchildren, never met a stranger and always made pe ople laugh.

Burnell graduated Newton High School in 1970 , he then wou ld attend East Cent ral Junior College where he met h is beloved wife, Patsy. He also served in the National Gu ard.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glover B. Simmons, Jr.; mother, Margaret Nelson Simmons.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Comans Simmons of Conehatta, MS; sons, Bradly Simmons of Pearl, MS and Chase Simmons (Jessica) of Brandon, MS ; daughter, Kristin Hockman (Steven) of Olive Branch, MS; grandchildren, Miriam Hockman, Isaiah Hockman, Ryan Busby, Avery Simmons and Jackson Simmons; and brother, Tommy Simmons.

Pallbearers will be Bradly Simmons, Chase Simmons, Gregg Gardner, Tommy Simmons, Arnold Walters, and Rusty McMillan.
