Billy Joe Lucroy, age 80, and a longtime resident of Decatur,  passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Bedford Care Center of Newton.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Newton County Funeral Home-North in 9998 Hwy 15 North, Newton, with funeral services immediately following the visitation in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Newton County Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Lucroy will be remembered as a local business owner, of the pool hall in Decatur, and one who was a friend to many, specifically, the "hometown people" of Decatur. He was a member of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church and a retired employee of East Central Community College, where he served as a custodian in the maintenance department. He was also a former paper carrier for The Meridian Star for over thirty years. A sports fanatic, Mr. Lucroy was an avid fan of Ole Miss Football and he enjoyed fishing in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Bonnie Kate Smith Lucroy;  two brothers, Jimmy Lucroy and Frank Lucroy and one sister, Edna Comans.

Survivors include his brothers, Roy Lucroy (Deborah) of Philadelphia and Doyce Lucroy (Betty) of Pontotoc; several nieces and nephews also survive.
