On Monday, June 24, 2019, Billie Ray Gibbs, loving husband and father, entered his Heavenly Home at age 84.

Billie Ray was born on July 22, 1934 in Newton, Mississippi to Zach and Lillian Gibbs. He was raised in Newton County until he joined the US Army from 1956-1958, serving in France. Upon his discharge, he returned to Newton County and moved to Neshoba County in 1977 where he stayed the remainder of his life.

Billie Ray led a life with a passion for Jesus Christ. He ministered at several Baptist churches during his time as a pastor. He also was dedicated to his commitment to weekly jail ministry where he led many souls to Christ.

During his career years, he distributed candy, peanuts, and beef jerky to schools for fundraising. His grandchildren lovingly called him "The Candy Man". Billie Ray enjoyed his yearly vacations to Colorado for Jeep rides and river rafting.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Newton County Funeral Home-North. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Newton County Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery. Bro. Steve Robinson, Bro. Wayne Stockstill, and Bro. Jerry Wilson will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 635-3200

He was preceded in death by parents, Zack and Lillian Gibbs; siblings, Harvey Gibbs, Annie Lee Gibbs, Eula Gibbs, and Hulon Gibbs; grandson, Anthony Gibbs.

Survivors include wife, Helen Gibbs; children, Fonda Boney (Jeff), Scott Gibbs, Brenda Wolverton, and Kathy Smith (Randy); sisters, Nellie Nelson (Edward) and Charlotte May; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jason Smith, Tyler Smith, and Brent Smith; nephews, Randell Nelson and David Gibbs, and great nephew, Cameron Smith

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Harrison and Terry Smith.
