Obituary

Visitation for Beverly Ann Sowell will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 10:00 am until 10:55 am at Newton County Funeral Home - South with services celebrating her life beginning at 11:00 am in the chapel.

Beverly Ann Addy was born in Newton County on January 12, 1949, and lived three quarters of a century, 75 wonderful years.  Beverly will be remembered for the love she had for people, and her individuality. She was unique in every sense of the terms from her fashion to her expressive language without apology. Professionally, she worked tirelessly, with diligence and was fiercely independent. She worked for Newton Company for eighteen years, and at the Road Runner Truck Stop for many years, and also at local numerous convenience stores. In her later years, she was a caretaker for the elderly. The family rejoices in the fact that Beverly, most recently made a profession of faith as Jesus Christ, as her Lord and Savior. Above all, Beverly Sowell will be remembered for her servant's heart. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She passed away Friday, October 25, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Lee Sowell; her parents, William and Maxine Lewis Addy and one great niece, Nova Buchanan.

Survivors include her daughter, Felicia Sowell of Newton; one sister, Barbara Addy Simmons (Steve) of Del Rio, TN; two nephews, Blake Buchanan (Aly), Haven Haralson of Newton; great nephews, Elon Buchanan, Knox Buchanan and Remy Buchanan; one great niece, Iris Buchanan; and her emotional support dog, Somethin' Serious.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Blake Buchanan, Haven Haralson, and good friend, Bennie Sessums.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her loving friends, Karen Gibbs and Janet Simmons, as well as the administration, directors, staff and caregivers of Hilltop Manor Nursing Home at Union and Bedford Care Center of Newton.
