Amos Ross Bounds, 87, of Newton, MS died Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his residence in Newton, MS. He was born Monday, October 20, 1930 in Newton, MS.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Newton County Funeral South. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS. Dr. Brian Rushing will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements. (601) 635-3200

Mr. Bounds was retired from the U. S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Vietnam War and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a longtime owner of the Quik Sak-Um Convenience Store in Newton.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Amos Bounds, two sisters, Marice Brand and Loraine Byrd, and two brothers, Bill and Leon Bounds,

Survivors include his Wife - Edna Earle Bounds of Newton, MS, One daughter - Phyllis (Roy) Watson, Rolling Fork, MS; three sons - Jeffery (Jo Beth) Bounds, Newton, MS, Joe (Karen) Bounds, Lawrence, MS and Jon (Melynda) Bounds, Old Hickory, TN; two sisters - Louise Lucas and Betty Thames, and two brothers - Giles and Rodney Bounds.

Pallbearers will be Bo Bounds, Kevin Bounds, Kirk Thames, Jack Thames, Ted Whittle and Van Lucas,
