Amelia was special, one of a kind. She had many names – 'Miya, 'Miya Jo, Mama Dick, Nanny, and was loved by all who knew her. She told it like it was, never mincing words, but always comforting you if the truth hurt. A fabulous cook, meticulous seamstress, always a hard worker (whether in the field or in the office), a master at playing Rook, shucking corn, shelling peas and butterbeans, she also enjoyed fishing and just sitting on the back porch. Literally the sweetest and most caring person you could ever imagine.
She is preceded in death by Husband - Hiram Oscar "H.O." Hurst; Parents - Charles Robert Harris, Sr. and Jewel Harris; Son - Charlie "Billy" Green Hurst; Son - David Michael "Dirt" Hurst, Sr., Brother - Charles Robert Harris, Jr., Sisters - Anita Harris Dean-McKee and Peggy Harris Griffith.
Survivors include her Daughter - Kristie Hurst (Lee Hancock); Daughter-in-law Susan Hurst; Grandchildren: Shonda Hurst Campbell (Billy), David Michael Hurst, Jr., (Celeste), Cheryl Diane Hurst, Aimee Hurst Lang (Heath) and Helen Olivia Hurst; 9 Great-Grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tony Dean, J.R. Griffith, Jackie Gentry, Mike Luke, T.Q. McGee, Joshua Campbell and John Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Brackeen, Sr. and Keith Brackeen.
